Christmas Time in Las Vegas (OLD POST)

Hello My Dangerous Maniac’s,

With Thanksgiving weekend almost over and everyone starting to put up the light’s and decorations along with cleaning the chimney for Santa’s arrival on December 25th it is going to be a very hectic time for many of us.  All the Black Friday sales to Small Business Saturday and on to Cyber Monday, busy, busy, busy.   Let’s not forget the last minute rush to the mall and bakery for those last second goodies.    Yet there is a little gem in the Las Vegas desert that has become very near and dear to me over the 21 years I have lived here.

The biggest fundraiser of the year is Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest.  Instead of trying to tell you about this fabulous organization just see the video at the end.  This will give you a idea what OV is all about.  I am so proud to be a mom of a former OV client!

The most exciting time of the year for local Las Vegas Resident’s and Visitor’s  starts the evening of Black Friday. Santa and Mrs Claus arrive via helicopter  to kick off the tree lighting ceremony after the speeches from our own Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Congress Woman Dina Titus leading the way.  Live music by Human Nature filled the air with Christmas Carol’s while the children and adults waited for Santa and Mrs Claus along with Nevada’s Congress woman, The Mayor, The Chippendales and others to light up the huge Christmas Tree.   As the countdown starts the kids and adults counted with the Claus’s and Bam once they hit the Switch not only did the tree light up, it began to snow and fireworks filled the evening sky.  Yes Santa and the Mrs made it snow.

The whole area packed with children giggling and smiling with joy and excitement was a beautiful site for a chilly November evening.  Just that fast the Magical Forest was open.

Many rushed to then main entrance to the forest to enjoy the decorated tress that many local business’s donated to the fundraiser.  Many headed for the train that takes you through the Magical Forest and there are other rides and a few carnival type games.  My daughter was a client of Opportunity Village for many years during and after High School and gives back every season by giving her time to work the event as much as she can.

After rides and a few games you can visit the candy cabin and purchase gift’s for family and friends.  The smell of roasted nut’s fills the air as soon as you walk in.  Don’t forget to take the kids to Santa’s cabin for a chat with the big guy and to get a nice photo.  The smell’s and sounds of a old fashioned Christmas.  You also can take pictures with the Abominable Snowman for a small fee if you want a printed photo or the elf’s will take pictures for you using your Cellular Phone at no cost.  Please leave a donation in the box of any amount, remember this is all going for a fantastic cause and rest assured it all goes back into the campus of OV  for job training!

Hot dogs,  chili, funnel cakes, water, soda, hot chocolate are also available for hungry little tummy’s and big one’s too.

The Magical Forest is located on 6300 W Oakey Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89146.  Cross Street is Torrey Pines.

The box office opens at 5pm and the park at 5:30pm, there is also a ticket kiosk to the left of the entrance if you don’t want to wait in line.  You can also purchase tickets online at  All information is available on the web site.  There is no charge for parking.

If you live in Las Vegas or are just visiting over the Christmas Holidays and love the sites and smells of the season you have to stop by this gem!!!  No Smoking or Alcohol allowed, you may however smoke outside the main entrance, make sure you get a hand stamp before going out so you can get back in.

See the website to find out how you can be a sponsor or book the forest for a event as well as how you can personally donate to the campus.
